About Wordure

Wordure exists because learning vocabulary usually means one of two things: a dry dictionary entry with no context, or a vocabulary app that asks you to memorize a word without ever explaining where it came from or how it's actually used.

We wanted something in between: a word reference built to be read, not just looked up, with the etymology, the nuance, and the examples that make a word stick.

What You'll Find Here

Word Groups
Vocabulary organized into focused topic groups, from emotions and communication to law, finance, and nature, so you can explore words that relate to each other instead of an alphabetical list.

Rich Word Pages
Every word includes a plain-language definition, its etymology and word-origin story, example sentences, synonyms and antonyms, commonly confused words, and a memory hook, not just a dictionary entry.

Free to Use
Everything on Wordure is free with no account required. No paywalls, no SEO-generated filler, just a reference built to be genuinely useful.

Built by the Makers of LangBlitz

Wordure is part of the MortalApps family. We also build LangBlitz, an Android app for building English vocabulary with FSRS spaced repetition, covering 5,000+ curated words across 119 topic groups and CEFR levels A1 to C2. It's built by the same team, with the same attention to etymology and real usage you'll find here on Wordure.
