To hide or store historical documents, posts, or records so they are preserved but no longer visible in primary feeds.
On social platforms, archiving removes a post from your public profile without permanently deleting its data or metrics.
The story behind the word. The ancient Greeks kept official records in the 'arkheion', the residence of the chief magistrates ('arkhon'). The word traveled through French into English to describe both the place where documents are stored and the stored items themselves.
