Emphasizes learner autonomy, self-concept, practical experience, and problem-centered learning distinct from children's education.
The story behind the word. Coined in 1833 by German educator Alexander Kapp, 'andragogy' was created to mirror 'pedagogy'. While 'pedagogy' literally meant 'child-leading', Kapp coined 'andragogy' from 'andros' (man/adult) to highlight how instructing mature individuals requires guidance grounded in independence.
