palette
PAL-it
/ˈpælɪt/
The range of colors used by a particular artist or in a specific design; a thin board on which an artist mixes paints.
In interior design, a 'palette' is not just a random collection of colors, but a carefully curated scheme designed to evoke a specific mood or tie a room together.
The story behind the word. The word traces back to the Latin 'pala,' meaning a spade or blade. Because a painter's traditional wooden mixing board resembled a small flat spade, the French called it a 'palette.' Eventually, the word expanded metaphorically to mean the actual colors chosen for a work of art or room.
