In yoga, restorative practice uses supportive props and long holds to calm the nervous system without active exertion.

The story behind the word. From Old French 'restoratif', from Latin 'restaurare' (to rebuild, repair, or renew). It historically named herbal tonics that rebuilt vitality before coming to describe soothing physical recovery practices.
