Exchange Rate
iks-CHAYNJ RAYT
/ɪksˈtʃeɪndʒ reɪt/
The value of one currency for the purpose of conversion to another.
It's the price of one country's currency in terms of another country's currency.
The story behind the word. The word 'exchange' comes from Old French 'eschangier,' meaning 'to exchange,' which itself has roots in Vulgar Latin. 'Rate' comes from Old French 'rate,' meaning 'fixed amount.' Together, they describe the fixed amount at which one currency can be swapped for another, a concept essential for global trade.
