Strongly supporting a specific political party, cause, or faction, often showing uncritical devotion.
Frequently carries a negative connotation of rigid, uncompromising ideological bias.
The story behind the word. Derived from Italian partigiano, meaning one who takes the side of a particular parte (faction). In medieval warfare, a partisan was a fierce irregular fighter loyal to a regional leader; over time, the term shifted to political party loyalty.
