Public support for or recommendation of a particular cause or policy.
In victimology, it refers to the specialized support provided to victims to help them navigate the legal system.
The story behind the word. The root 'vocare' means 'to call.' An advocate is someone who is 'called to' stand beside another person and speak for them, much like a lawyer in a courtroom.
