entanglement
A quantum mechanical phenomenon in which the quantum states of two or more particles become linked in such a way that they cannot be described independently of each other, even when separated by large distances.
This is a non-classical correlation. Measuring a property of one entangled particle instantaneously influences the state of the other, regardless of distance, a phenomenon Einstein famously called 'spooky action at a distance.'
