In psychology, 'divergent thinking' describes open-ended creative generation of varied solutions.
The story behind the word. Latin 'divergere' joined 'dis-' (apart) with 'vergere' (to bend). It described streams splitting around an island before being used for opinions and creative paths that spread outward in all directions.
