logistics
loh-JIS-tiks
/ləˈdʒɪs.tɪks/
The detailed coordination of a complex operation involving many people, facilities, or supplies.
While often used for transport, it encompasses the strategy and planning of the entire movement, not just the driving.
The story behind the word. Originally a military term from the Greek 'logistikos', referring to the administrative work of moving armies. It moved into the business world as global trade became as complex as warfare.
