hybridization
hy-brid-ih-ZAY-shun
/ˌhaɪbrɪdaɪˈzeɪʃən/
The process of mixing different cultural elements to create something new and distinct.
Unlike homogenization (which makes things the same), hybridization creates a 'third' unique thing from two parents.
The story behind the word. The Latin 'hybrida' specifically referred to the offspring of a domestic sow and a wild boar. It was a 'mongrel' term. It moved from biology into culture to describe the 'cross-breeding' of ideas, languages, and traditions.

When not to use
